Launch Of #NoBraNoBarrier Campaign to Save More Lives in Female Cardiac Arrest Emergencies

Defib Supplies launches No Bra No Barrier to empower action in cardiac arrests and save women’s lives without hesitation.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: July 2025

Defib Supplies, in partnership with Jenny Legg of Bra Off Defib On, and Ebbsfleet United FC has launched a powerful new public awareness campaign to tackle a life threatening hesitation during cardiac arrests: the fear of removing a bra to apply a defibrillator.

The #NoBraNoBarrier campaign aims to challenge public discomfort, educate first aiders and empower women to survive sudden cardiac arrest. When every second counts, defibrillator pads must be placed on bare skin. Bras, particularly sports bras and underwired styles, can block correct placement and delay lifesaving shocks.

To launch the campaign, Defib Supplies donated a Progetti Semi-Automatic External Defibrillator to Ebbsfleet FC Women’s Team. The players then took part in a specialist training session led by Jenny Legg, which included simulations of female cardiac arrest scenarios. The session highlighted the realities of female anatomy in emergency response and addressed the widespread uncertainty surrounding clothing removal.

Every player took the pledge, declaring they want their bra removed immediately in the event of cardiac arrest.

“This is not about exposure. It is about survival,” said Jenny Legg, founder of Bra Off Defib On. “There is no time to hesitate when a woman’s heart stops. The bra must come off.”

“We are proud to support this campaign with action, not just words,” said Livio Gagliardi, Acting Managing Director of Defib Supplies. “No Bra No Barrier is about saving lives and shifting the conversation so that no woman’s life is lost because someone was afraid to do the right thing.”

Take the Pledge

Bra Off, Defib On is now collecting public pledges from women across the UK. The goal is to present these pledges to health organisations and first aid providers to push for clearer national guidance on defibrillation in female patients.

Supporters are encouraged to share their pledge on social media and use the hashtags #NoBraNoBarrier #StripTheStigma and #BraOffDefibOn. The campaign is especially relevant to schools, workplaces, sports clubs and community groups, where defibrillators are becoming increasingly common.
