In 2019, the football world was shaken by the sudden loss of Justin Edinburgh. A former Tottenham Hotspur player and respected manager, Justin died from sudden cardiac arrest at 49. He collapsed at a gym without a defibrillator on site, or trained staff.

His passing was a devastating loss for his family and friends. It also reminded us how vital quick access to a public access defibrillator is. Each year in the UK, around 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur. Early CPR and fast defibrillation greatly raise survival chances. From tragedy came determination. Justin’s family founded the Justin Edinburgh 3 Foundation (JE3 Foundation). His son, Charlie Edinburgh, leads it. The foundation helps prevent avoidable deaths. The device evaluated the casualty’s cardiac rhythm and administered accurate shocks that revived the heart before ambulance teams arrived. Among those involved in the second rescue was Charlie Edinburgh himself.

While playing golf, one of Charlie’s friends suddenly collapsed due to sudden cardiac arrest. Thanks to immediate CPR and rapid use of the same defibrillator, the first shock restarted his heart.
